From the Lowrie hut the route heads over the northern slopes of Mount Rocca Bianca, into Gianna Valley and up it to the Gianna pass, from where there are stunning views of the peak of Mount Monviso. A steep trail heads down into Cumbal del Rio to Pian Melzè at the bottom of the valley. It continues across the Pian della Regina plain and up to Pian del Re, the source of the river Po.
