B20 Rif. Città di Fiume » Pieve di Livinallongo
  |   8h00   |   22.2 km   |   309 m   |   786 m

This is rather a long stage and mostly downhill. Along the way is an important archaeological site from the Mesolithic period, the burial place of the Mondeval man. The trail goes over the Giau pass. The long descent towards Pieve di Livinallongo affords fine views over Marmolada.

Step not really interesting and polluted by all the bikers who take this scenic route and find themselves at the cafe of the Giau pass. This is also often the problem of the Dolomites, the noise caused by bikers and sports cars when walking along these scenic roads. Another concern, the indications of the guidebook not very clear at Federe but it led us to establish the camp a few hundred meters lower in a small abandoned hamlet and see the next morning chamois.

To confirm Werni's comment, it looks like it might take years to clear the trail from Again to Castello. It took me several hours to go two kilometers crawling over trees. Take the road instead.

The Way from castle Andraz to pieve is this time (June 2019) very difficult. There are lying a Lot of broken trees. Better to Take another Way. Werni

Nearby fatalistic hiker and disappointed wrote in Italian on a sign "there was nothing"! Passo Giau arive, go to the shelter Fadare then reach a plateau or is meadows and larch and stone pines grow. Cross the road S 48 to reach Castello di Andraz. Soon after, the trail rises sharply and the lack of lighting makes it particularly difficult route because many forest paths ... rifugio Citta di Fiume can be avoided...if you got enough time to try to reach rifugio San Marco..you can shortcut to San vito by a trail near Malga Prendera 2150m (about half way in between forcella Ambrizzola and rif Citta di Fiume)

San Vito - rif san Marco should be about 1h30

Trail is poorly marked.Left Pieve by a small road up until it reach hamlet Pala 1690m (Col di Lana direction)
After about an hour walk following the road it reaches last hamlet called Daghe Agai 1750m
From there, a trail is going up left (no markers).Castello di Andraz is then later marked in the woods (a piece of trail is gone by landslide on the way)
Kept going flat/slightly up, reached 1910m before going down to castello di Andraz (Col di lana marked in the other direction)

Pieve - Castello di Andraz 2h30
Public toilets by the castle ruin
shortly after castello di andraz crossing SS48 road and going up trail towards Forcella Nuvolau (no time markers but from there rifugio Fedare should be about 3h30)
in between castello di andraz and rifugio fedare few huts but all closed, sheeperd have a shack at 2150m
another rifugio Averau (guess an hour from Fedare) is in the vincinity (to stay up and not going down by the road)
